Longines Redesigns The PrimaLuna Collection, Introduces Its First Sapphire Gem-Set Model
Summary
First introduced in 2009, the Longines PrimaLuna collection was conceived as a tribute to femininity, drawing inspiration from the moon’s soft, rounded form. Its name, meaning “first moon,” reflects this celestial influence, echoed in its curved cases, moonphase complications, and refined gem-setting. Over the years, PrimaLuna has become one of the brand’s signature women’s collections, offering both quartz and automatic movements.
This year, Longines has unveiled a complete reimagining of the PrimaLuna, refining its case proportions — previous iterations leaned toward rounder, slightly bulkier profiles; the new case introduces refined proportions and softer domed surfaces — gem-setting, and complications.

Cases come in stainless steel, bi-material combinations, or embellished with diamonds and the sapphires
The case retains its 34mm size, now with domed surfaces that interplay with light. While earlier PrimaLuna crowns were relatively simple, the latest iteration redesigns the crown with a more bubble-like form, as if to evoke the full moon, emphasizing the watch’s iconic moon phases complication.
The watches run on the self-winding L899.5 caliber that was introduced in 2023 for the Longines Flagship Heritage collection. It was constructed with a silicon balance-spring for enhanced magnetic resistance, providing up to 72 hours of power reserve, and features a moonphase complication.
PrimaLuna with diamonds, mother-of-pearl, and a first-ever sapphire-set bezel
The redesigned PrimaLuna is available in three distinct dial expressions: a sunray silver dial with Roman numerals, a white mother-of-pearl dial with diamonds, and the collection’s pinnacle, a blue mother-of-pearl model, featuring 14 diamond indexes and a bezel set with 48 sapphires in subtle gradations of blue — a first for the PrimaLuna collection.
Here, sapphires grace the bezel, totaling 1.06 carats across 48 selected stones. Chosen for their vivid hues, brilliance, and durability (rated 9 on the Mohs scale), these sapphires mirror the infinite variations of twilight skies, playing on the watch’s thematic lunar design.
Complementing the bezel is the blue mother-of-pearl dial, adorned with 14 diamond indices, with a matching pearly blue leather strap to complete the ensemble.
Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Jennifer Lawrence, leads the new campaign. It captures her in solitary, dreamlike moments within an empty opera house, reflecting intimacy and reflection, far from the spotlight. The message is to evoke what the new PrimaLuna represents, which is that true elegance is found in personal, meaningful moments, not in grand gestures.
