Jacob & Co Enters the Luxury Metaverse with the Launch of the Astronomia Metaverso

No one has ever accused Jacob & Co. of being boring, particularly when it pertains to their watches.

Whether it be a collaborative partnership with one of history’s greatest soccer players (Lionel Messi), or a USD1.5 million Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Blue Sapphire Crystal unique piece, or their highly complicated and awe-inspiring Astronomia Sky, the brand — and the man behind the brand — has proven to be more than your everyday jeweler. Jacob & Co.’s founder and chairman Jacob Arabo has forged ahead and created not only a space in the world of luxury watchmaking, but he practically created a category all his own. There are no other brands one can compare to Jacob & Co., and the brand has no intention of slowing down when it comes to separating themselves from the pack.

Case in point: the new Astronomia Metaverso.

Jupiter, the gas giant, never looked this good.

As the name suggests, the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Metaverso is the first collection in the brand’s watch lineup to be associated with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, in general. The brand has partnered with UNXD, a premium NFT marketplace that is also collaborating with luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana.

The Astronomia Metaverso collection — which the brand defines as “bespoke” — builds upon Jacob & Co.’s well-known Astronomia line while extending it into the digital realm by featuring a custom comic and cinematic movie telling its sci-fi backstory. The movie (and its preceding comic strip) centers on a scientist who rips the fabric of space, opening a wormhole and allowing digital asteroids into the metaverse. These asteroids collide with all eight of the metaversal twin planets in our solar system (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) from which the watches in this groundbreaking collection draw their inspiration.

Jacob Arabo was the man behind the plan, personally designing all eight of the physical and digital editions of the watch. Only the first five planets closest to the sun will have an accompanying physical watch as well as a digital version, while the final three will be in digital/NFT form only. All editions, however, are accompanied by “powers” that come in handy in both the present and future worlds of Jacob and Co. clients.

Every accompanying NFT to the watches in the Astronomia Metaverso collection will be joined by member benefits and exclusive privileges such as access to any future NFT digital activations. Every version will be accompanied by original NFT artwork, including renderings of the watch available in high-resolution as well as a digital timepiece that is set to function as a clock. The digital-only offerings for Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will also feature multiple variant designs. For the five planets that will have associated physical watches (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter), the owners should expect the same meticulous craftsmanship and quality present in all of Jacob & Co.’s luxury timepieces.

The Astronomia Metaverso collection and its associated digital assets will be put up for auction on the UNXD.com website, although no drop date has been confirmed.

On the company’s move toward the metaverse and usage of NFTs, CEO of Jacob & Co. Benjamin Arabov says, “This is a long-term commitment for us, and the first in a series of launches. As a company, we’ve always been on the bleeding edge of art and technology — forging our own path instead of following the crowd. We’re putting all our creative energy into this and can’t wait to show the world what we’re making.”
