IWC at Watches and Wonders 2025: Ingenieurs in New Sizes and Materials, Pilot’s Watch Upgrades, and F1 Movie Editions
IWC is implementing a cohesive strategy across the Ingenieur board by introducing new sizes, diverse complications, and the use of ceramic and precious materials to appeal to a broader audience. This approach is similar to the expansion seen in the Pilots and Portugieser lines over the past five years. In many ways, it also recalls the GST collection introduced in the late 1990s, which featured case sizes ranging from 39mm to 43mm, and gold, steel and titanium models. This year, the brand’s focus is on expanding the recently reintroduced Ingenieur collection.
A new Ingenieur in 42mm experiments with black ceramic
IWC’s use of ceramic dates back to the 1986 Da Vinci Ref. 3755 Perpetual Calendar in white ceramic. The brand dabbled with the material in the previous Ingenieur and Pilot’s Watch collections as well. Now, with the Ingenieur Automatic 42, IWC introduces an industry first by combining three distinct finishing techniques on zirconium oxide ceramic: satin finishing, sandblasting and polishing. According to IWC, due to the exceptional hardness of ceramic, specialized diamond tools were required to achieve the desired surface textures.

The Ingenieur 42 features a 42mm case diameter and a thickness of 11.6mm and retains the same overall case structure and appearance of the steel predecessor. The integrated bracelet also receives an all-ceramic upgrade.
Complementing the ceramic case and bracelet is a sleek black dial paired with luminous hands. The Ingenieur 42 is driven by the IWC 82110 manufacture movement, a self-winding caliber known for its efficiency and reliability, thanks to its advanced Pellaton winding system. According to the brand, to enhance durability and performance, the movement now also incorporates ceramic components. Caliber 82110 provides a power reserve of 60 hours through a single barrel.

Ingenieur debuts in full gold
Meanwhile the Ingenieur 40mm, which was first introduced in 2023, is now presented in precious gold. The arrival of this model shows how IWC is jockeying for position in the category of luxury integrated-bracelet sports watches populated by the likes of Patek Philippe’s Nautilus, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas. But as an engineering brand, IWC has taken a markedly different route in terms of aesthetics, leaning away from any glittery showiness and opting for a style of finishing that favors simplicity and sobriety.

This new Ingenieur Automatic 40 is distinguished by its case and integrated bracelet made of 18K 5N gold and features a highly detailed finishing with a combination of satin-finished and polished surfaces. Image: Revolution ©

For this watch, IWC chose 18K 5N gold, an alloy known for its warm color, and finished the surface with hand polishing and brushing. Its measurements are slightly above the Royal Oak Jumbo, but well below that of Ref. 1650 — 40mm in diameter and 9.5mm in height, and a lug-to-lug distance of 40.7mm. The water resistance rating of 100m also exceeds that of other luxury integrated-bracelet sports watches.
Completing the Ingenieur Gold’s monochromatic theme are gold-plated hands and a bracelet that is also crafted from 18K 5N gold. The watch is powered by the 47110 manufacture caliber that has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Ingenieur introduces a new size in 35mm
Then we have the newly reimagined 35mm Ingenieur arriving at a fitting moment, as the trend toward smaller watch sizes continues to grow. IWC has engineered a watch for smaller wrists while maintaining the spirit of Ingenieur as a luxury sport watch.
This watch features a 35mm case diameter and a slim 9.5mm profile, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 40.7mm.
The case is made in either stainless steel or 18K gold, laying the foundation to further expand the 35mm collection. The integrated bracelet has been resized to align with the case dimensions. Despite its reduced proportions, the Ingenieur still delivers a water-resistance rating of 100m.

The Ingenieur’s first perpetual calendar
Next, IWC went big on the very first complication introduced for the Ingenieur series with the first stainless steel Ingenieur to feature the user-friendly perpetual calendar developed by the legendary Kurt Klaus. Unlike many perpetual calendars that require multiple pushers for adjustments, the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41 can be adjusted simply via the crown.

The three perpetual calendar subdials have been integrated into the Ingenieur dial: date at 3 o’clock, day of the week at 9 o’clock, while the one at 6 o’clock combines the month with the perpetual moon phase. Image: Revolution ©
IWC has housed the perpetual-calendar movement in a compact 41.6mm stainless steel case, which is commendable since the Pilots and Portugieser watches with a QP complication are usually offered in much larger cases. The case measures 13.5mm in height, striking a balance between accommodating the complex movement and maintaining a wearable profile.
Despite the wealth of information displayed on the dial — including day, date, month, year and moon phase — the dial remains clean and easily readable, thanks to the use of contrasting colors and a thoughtful layout. Powering this high complication is the IWC 82500 manufacture caliber featuring the brand’s signature Pellaton winding system.

A special green dial Ingenieur for upcoming F1 movie
The last watch to join the Ingenieur collection is a limited edition in 40mm with a unique green “Grid” patterned dial and gold appliques. The design was inspired by a prop watch used in the upcoming Apple Original Film F1® The Movie. In the film, the character Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt, wears a modified version of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL.
The distinctive green dial, featuring a “Grid” pattern, pays homage to the racing world by evoking the imagery of starting grids and checkered flags. Astute watch enthusiasts on social media had already spotted the watch worn by Brad Pitt at the Daytona racetrack in 2024, during the filming of the Formula 1 movie. The limited-edition Ingenieur comes fitted with an integrated stainless steel bracelet, and IWC-manufactured 32111 automatic movement with a 120-hour power reserve.

Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month
The first of IWC’s new Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronographs is a Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month that combines titanium in an all-black Ceratanium® case and bracelet. A polished ceramic tachymeter bezel frames a hammered black dial, which displays the main hours and calendar functions.

IWC presents its first Performance Chronograph featuring a perpetual calendar, crafted in all-black design execution in Ceratanium®
However, the date and month counters are sans hands, instead using a digital display on large golden discs at 3 and 9 o’clock — a look reminiscent of IWC’s Pallweber pocket watches from the 1880s. And despite juggling four display discs, you can set the whole calendar using just the crown. The watch runs on the in-house 89802 caliber that offers a 68-hour power reserve.

Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL
IWC continues to build on its SPRIN-g PROTECT system that was specially designed around the tourbillon. They first showed this tech in the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL in a limited 100-piece run (including one made specially for Mercedes-AMG F1 boss Toto Wolff in the team’s black and green colors).

The cantilever spring was completely re-designed and adapted to accommodate the IWC-manufactured 82915 calibre with a flying minute tourbillon.
This new system features a completely redesigned cantilever spring made from bulk metallic glass (BMG), a material with an amorphous structure giving it extraordinary elasticity. The spring cradles the skeletonized IWC-manufactured 82915 calibre with flying minute tourbillon, suspending it inside the Ceratanium case.

New Pilot’s Watch Chronographs for “APX GP”
Also joining the green-eyed Ingenieur for the summer blockbuster are three new Pilot’s Watch chronographs. The new timepieces draw inspiration from “APXGP,” the fictional 11th Formula One team featured in the film, drawing on the team’s distinctive black, gold, and white color scheme.

This particular Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388309) in an 18K 5N gold case will be worn on the wrist of Damson Idris’ character Joshua Pearce. Image: Revolution ©
The star of the collection is the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41, featuring an 18K gold case that will be worn by actor Damson Idris in his role as racer Joshua Pearce. Two stainless steel models round out the lineup — the 43mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP and its more compact 41mm sibling. All three watches are powered by IWC’s in-house 69385 calibre movement, offering up to 46 hours of power reserve.
