Introducing the Fortis Marinemaster M-40 Snow White

Marinemaster Story

Fortis has Marinemaster watches in its catalog since the 1940’s. However, the most memorable vintage Marinemasters are from the 1960’s and 1970’s where Fortis made hefty Super Compressor dive watches in bright colors. Some of the watches featured multicolored dials with decompression charts, for divers to roughly calculate the total decompression time.
The multicolored Marinemaster (Ref. 6237) has been such a popular watch for its horological design, that in 2002 Fortis reissued the classic limited batch of 90. That alone attests to its long-lived appeal.

A Natural Progression

The newest Marinemaster collection from Fortis offers a functionally rich tool watch with a refreshing color palette inspired by nature. There are two models in the collection, the M-40 and the M-44, and both adhere to an environmentally conscious approach with recycled steel cases. Unlike the chunky and funky 1970’s Marinemaster dive watches, these unpretentious timepieces are designed to be a reliable companion for outdoor activities like fishing, windsurfing, hiking or camping.

Each dial features applied indices with a minimalist sense of style and strategic applications of Super-Luminova X1 for great legibility in low light conditions. The date window at the three o’clock position is well balanced and unobtrusive to maintain a clean, bold aesthetic. The Gear Bezel, a proprietary bezel developed by Fortis that adds a new level of grip and functionality.

The M-40 Snow White is constructed with a recycled stainless steel case and comes with stark white dial inspired by the beautiful snow-covered Swiss winter landscape. Snow White dial is as brilliant and clean as freshly fallen snow. The dial is metal coated with a richly colored deep lacquer for a beautifully polished and features a pattern reflecting the “O” from the Fortis logo.

The case features a screw-down crown with a triple gasket system for a 300m water resistance and shock protection to withstand the most vigorous of outdoor adventures. The unidirectional bezel has a luminous pip and a 60-minute scale.

The UW-30 Performance automatic movement has a unidirectional winding special rotor and is tested to Chronometer standards. This self-winding movement beats at 4Hz and offers 38 hours of power reserve. It is also equipped with an anti-magnetic gilt Glucydur balance wheel.

Snow White is available with a stainless-steel Block Bracelet or a Horizon Strap colored to perfectly match the lacquer of the dial. I personally prefer the Horizon Strap for its comfort, since it is built from an ultra-flexible rubber.

The two models offer very attractive options for an innovative tool watch rugged enough for the outdoors and handsome enough to be an eye-catching daily wear favorite.
