Introducing The Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35

Introducing The Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35

The Breitling Navitimer is arguably the most well-known, some might say iconic or legendary even, timepiece of the brand. When Georges Kern took over the helm of the brand almost two years ago, it was clear that he had the intention to open a new era for this important model.

One direction he undertook was to make the collection more accessible to women. This first step came in the form of the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 released in 2018. At 38mm in size, it primarily used steel as the case material (there was also a two-tone steel and gold version) paired with conservative dial colours such as blue, silver and black. Even if the watch was geared toward women, it was a very attractive option for men as well who fancied smaller vintage-inspired case sizes.

What it did was take the Navitimer away from the chronograph complication it has always been associated, while ushering in a new generation of beautifully crafted simple three-hand automatic watches with a date complication. The next year at Baselworld 2019 (R.I.P.), the same watch was released in a more modern 41mm case size with the same options as the Breitling Navitimer 1 Automatic 38.

Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35

For 2020, Breitling set out to really create a Navitimer collection that collectors would not mistake as anything else but a women’s watch. Introducing the Breitling Navitimer Automatic 35.

First off, the most obvious aspect is the case size of 35mm which will finely accommodate smaller feminine wrists. This is the smallest size ever for a Navitimer which decisively opens a whole new chapter in the history of this collection. Design-wise it’s a nod to the Navitimer Ref. 806 and its recognisable beaded bezel, and to the Navitimer Ref. 66 with its iconic circular slide rule. Inside the new Navitimer Automatic 35, you’ll find the COSC-certified Caliber 17 delivering a power reserve of about 38 hours.

At 35mm, the watch could still be worn by men if they really wanted to, but the colour combinations offered on this new timepiece are really what sets the model apart as a women’s collection.

There are three case materials to choose from in this new collection. The version in a stainless steel case can be combined with a blue, copper or silver dial and are paired with elegant alligator straps to make the dial visually pop to the eyes of the wearer. The last dial option available with the stainless steel case is a white mother-of-pearl dial with diamond hour markers and a burgundy alligator strap. The two remaining case options are a two-tone steel and 18k red gold, or a full 18k red gold case. Both are fitted with the white mother-of-pearl dial and diamond hour markers. Each combination of the Navitimer Automatic 35 can be delivered on an alligator strap or their matching metal bracelets.

Breitling is adding a worthy new member to their popular Navitimer family. The size of the case paired with the various dials offer the chance for women to wear an elegant watch fitted with an important heritage.
