The Low-Down

Ressence has launched the latest addition to its innovative Type 2 collection, the Type 2N ‘Night Blue’. It forms part the boutique brand’s releases for Watches & Wonders 2021.

With this new model, Ressence has further refined the Type 2 concept, adding Night Blue, a sleek new colorway to the clean, futuristic design. The new Ressence Type 2N is dressier bringing a new character to its unique e-Crown system. For 2021 highly polished Grade 5 Titanium takes the place of matte black PVD and the dial comes in a soft matte night blue.

This is the third watch in the Type 2 range. It joins the existing ‘Grey’ and ‘Anthracite’ references.

The Ressence e-Crown system seamlessly integrates traditional mechanical watchmaking with electronic elements to ensure that the watch is correctly set with just a single touch. A lever set into the caseback and is used to manually set the time.

Although the watch is independent of the smartphone app, you can forever store your home time zone via Bluetooth on the app. Control is then at-a-glance. Green denotes the primary time zone. Yellow the secondary time zone. Blue indicates the watch is connected to the app via Bluetooth, and the white arrow represents the e-Crown’s off position.

Two time zones can be set with just a tap on the crystal. No matter how long the watch is left in a drawer, just a double tap on the crystal will return it to the correct time. The clever system detects when the watch is not being used and stops the movement to save the power reserve.

The watch lights up with an array of photovoltaic cells concealed beneath the dial, ensuring that its smart functions are as reliable as the automatic calibre at the heart of the watch.

IMHO

The watch works on an ETA 2892-A2 automatic movement with a mere 36 hours’ power reserve integrated with the ROCS 2 automatic movement for its signature planetary dial. However, the smart stop function of the watch when not being worn ensures the power reserve doesn’t wear down too quickly. The new Night Blue colorway adds a mature presence to the ongoing electronic-mechanical hybrid that distinguishes the Ressence range.
