The GPHG 2024 Watches Are Now On Their World Tour: Here’s Where to View Them
The 2024 edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) commenced its world tour on 28 September at Christie’s new Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. Situated on the sixth floor of The Henderson building, the event marked the GPHG’s first partnership with the renowned auction house, offering a unique opportunity to view 90 of the world’s most exquisite timepieces. Curated by 57 different brands and spanning 15 categories, the exhibition provided a rich tapestry of contemporary watchmaking, showcasing creativity, technical mastery, and artistic diversity.
The Hong Kong exhibition was open for three days, featuring guided tours on 29 and 30 September. These tours gave attendees a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship and innovation behind the nominated watches, while also delving into the fascinating stories that make each piece a work of art in its own right. Carine Maillard, Director of the GPHG Foundation, expressed her pride in this partnership, stating, “It is an honour for the GPHG to be the first guest exhibition at The Henderson. This location is ideal for showcasing the excellence of contemporary watchmaking.”
Alexandre Bigler, Senior Vice President and Head of Watches at Christie’s Asia Pacific, echoed this sentiment, noting that the collaboration underscores Christie’s leadership in luxury and horology. “Hosting this exhibition in our state-of-the-art regional hub at The Henderson is a testament to Christie’s ability to unite industry leaders, collectors, and enthusiasts alike,” Bigler said. He emphasized that the event not only celebrates watchmaking heritage but also sparks meaningful conversations about the future of horology.
GPHG 2024 Global Tour
The journey of the 90 nominated timepieces doesn’t end in Hong Kong. Following its Asia Pacific debut, the GPHG exhibition will continue to Ho Chi Minh City from 8 to 10 October, partnering with The Hour Glass. Next, it will make its way to New York City, where Watches of Switzerland Soho will host the collection from 18 to 21 October, before arriving in Geneva for its longest stay at the Rath Museum from 30 October to 17 November. Finally, after the awards ceremony on 13 November, the prize-winning watches will be exhibited at the Bucharest University Library from 21 to 23 November in collaboration with MisterWatch Magazine.
As the anticipation builds for the 24th GPHG Awards Ceremony in Geneva, where the coveted “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix and 19 other prestigious prizes will be presented, watch aficionados around the globe can tune in live on 13 November via gphg.org at 6PM CET.
With its wide-reaching appeal, the 2024 GPHG world tour not only highlights the best in horology but also underscores the dedication of industry leaders to make fine watchmaking accessible to a broader audience.
