Frederique Constant at Watches and Wonders 2025: Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture

The new Classic QP gets a slight makeover.

Frederique Constant at Watches and Wonders 2025 has once again proven the brand’s dedication to extreme value in Swiss watchmaking, creating many of the most reasonably priced yet classically intentioned timepieces on the market. Complications which would otherwise be completely inaccessible to mere mortals are offered within the realm of possibility, all without sacrificing the finishing and feeling that make such timepieces so special. Now, FC has continued this legacy of cost-effective creation with an update to one of their most impressive pieces, the Classic Perpetual Calendar.

The Frederique Constant Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture now comes in a new Classic case with gentler lines, slimmer lugs, and a more compact diameter of 40mm

The new Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture arrives with a host of updates, and refinements. The watch is now available in a the new, 40mm Classic case in stainless steel, down from the original 42mm. The new case has a softer profile overall, with more rounded, elegant features and slightly more substantive lugs. The salmon toned sunray dial has ever so slightly recessed sub register for the calendar functions, as well as a minimalist blue moonphase window at 6 o’clock. Along with the polished, diamond cut indices and slimmer dauphine hands, the dial has more dimension and visual appeal than its predecessor.

But the improvements are not limited to aesthetics alone. The new Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture also features the brand new, in-house developed FC-776 automatic movement. The new movement features elegant, if straightforward, finishing techniques such as perlage and Geneva stripes. Most significantly, it also features a 72-hour power reserve and beats at a reliable 4hz. This marks the 34th calibre that FC has developed over the course of the company’s history. Impressive when you consider that the company was founded in 1988 — meaning an average of one new movement almost every year that they have existed.

This watch is an admirable update to Frederique Constant’s offerings, making multiple meaningful improvements to their Perpetual Calendars. Considering the fact that Frederique Constant’s initial Slimline Perpetual Calendar, fitted with the FC-775 manufacture movement was released nearly ten years ago in 2016, and the fact that it was priced at US$9,000, it’s remarkable that this new one is now just short of US$10,000. When you factor in the movement improvements, case refinements, dial refresh, you’re getting a huge amount of watch for a nominal increase in price (US$2k less than what would be accounted for inflation alone.)
