Bremont Launches Online Configurator for Updated MBII

Well over 10 years ago, Martin-Baker – a British aviation company responsible for supplying 70% of the world’s Air Forces with ejection seat technology for fighter pilots – partnered with British watchmaker, Bremont to create the Bremont Martin-Baker 1 (MB1). A special project that would produce a unique breed of British timepieces for pilots who have actually ejected a service aircraft, using Martin-Baker ejection seats.

We might all recall the story of Jimmy Fallon surprising his father-in-law with an MB1 during the taping of his show one day, back in 2015. His father-in-law had survived a live ejection from an active military plane, while he was in service. Hence why the gent was eligible to receive an MB1.

The MB1 has garnered a fair bit of a following since it was first announced. For military aviation enthusiasts and everyone else who were asking for a version of the watch, where you didn’t have to have survived a near-death seat ejection, Bremont released two civilian versions as the MBII and MBIII.

Now, to further empower this community of enthusiasts, Bremont is unveiling an online configurator that allows you to create the MBII of your dreams. From the dial-type, case, case back and barrel — there are apparently well over 100 combinations to choose from to create the MBII of your dreams. Throw in strap options and now you have well over 1000 possible combinations.

What you won’t find is an option for a red case barrel. Because this Bremont will keep exclusive to the MB1. You will, however, notice that some subtle updates have been made to the overall design of the MBII. In the instance of the black and white dial MBII, the design on the hands are a lot more prominent, the hour numerals are more contemporary – making the overall dial appear a lot cleaner – and lastly, the day function seems to have been omitted in this update. Adding to the black and white dial options, is also a new blue dial MBII.

Beyond all of the options for the MBII, what remains consistent is the rigorous testing that the collection has always been subject to. These include, a live ejection launch that puts the watch under extreme G forces, an altitude test chamber simulation that subjects the watch to conditions that it would face when ascending rapidly from 100,000 feet for 60 minutes!
