TAG Heuer and Bamford Watch Department have unveiled their latest collaboration, the Carbon Collection, headed by a limited-edition Bamford Monaco. An incredibly enthusiastic George Bamford was at TAG Heuer’s flagship boutique on Oxford Street for the London launch of the collection this week.

Bamford spoke of his affection for TAG Heuer, and for the Monaco in particular. He revealed that, although he was best-known initially for his after-market work on Rolexes and Audemars Piguets, the first watch he customised was actually a Monaco.

The Bamford Monaco, a limited series of 500 watches, is a new take on the watch famously worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 motor-racing classic Le Mans. The new watch has a carbon-fibre case and black opaline dial. Bamford declared himself “blown away” at the way TAG Heuer had executed the design collaboration.
The rest of the Carbon Collection consists of three different versions of the Carbon Aquaracer, a Bamford-inspired version of TAG Heuer’s aquatic sports watch with added carbon for the bezel and dial.
George Bamford, a one-time renegade customiser, went fully legit last year when he began working with LVMH brands TAG Heuer, Zenith and Bulgari.
