The Revolutionary List – 26 Inspirational Leaders: Raynald Aeschlimann

This year, Revolution turns 20. Two decades of chronicling watches, people and ideas have given us a front-row seat to a remarkable story: how an age-old craft has both preserved its soul and reinvented itself for the 21st century. To celebrate, we’ve chosen over 100 names and milestones that, for us, define the era so far. From leaders to watches, you can see the whole list here.

I have long suspected that Raynald Aeschlimann has had himself cloned multiple times, because I cannot otherwise understand how he has the energy to do everything he does. He is, in title, the CEO and President of the mighty Omega brand, though unofficially I believe his hand extends over the majority of brands in Omega’s parent company.

He has, in particular, been the modern father of the Speedmaster. When Aeschlimann took over as CEO of the brand, the Speedmaster was mainly associated with its historic role as the “Moonwatch.” But Aeschlimann took the legendary watch and made it even more iconic, turning it into not just a cult favorite among watch enthusiasts, but also a cultural phenomenon with heritage-driven editions. In 2019, he was arguably the only CEO who genuinely understood vintage collector culture, integrating all the things we love about vintage into modern watchmaking. This culminated in the incredible reintroduction of the Caliber 321, a movement that had disappeared from the Speedmaster in 1968.

But Aeschlimann’s work cannot be limited to just his passion for the Speedmaster; he is always present to support the launches of the seemingly innumerable novelties that Omega unveils throughout the year. Indeed, Omega is a juggernaut representing 2.6 billion Swiss francs in revenue (estimated by the latest Morgan Stanley × LuxeConsult report), and the man at its helm has always been a steadfast guiding force.
