The Revolutionary List – 26 Inspirational Leaders: Jean Arnault

This year, Revolution turns 20. Two decades of chronicling watches, people and ideas have given us a front-row seat to a remarkable story: how an age-old craft has both preserved its soul and reinvented itself for the 21st century. To celebrate, we’ve chosen over 100 names and milestones that, for us, define the era so far. From leaders to watches, you can see the whole list here.

Though he’s just in his mid-’20s, I’ve known Jean now for the better part of a decade, and I can say that he is a once-in-a-generation leader. Why? Because he has a profound watch IQ, immense knowledge, incredible passion and is in a position to use it to make a real difference in our industry.

One of the reasons he has become so beloved in the watch world is that in an era where the majority of leaders are ultimately not real watch lovers, certainly not at the level of Günter Blümlein, Philippe Stern and others like them, Jean is the exception. It is as if the mechanical systems watches represent speak to him in a way few understand. The other main reason I consider him to already be one of the most significant leaders of the new millennium is that he is not just a talker, but he is also an executor. And unlike many others in his position, he has executed his vision personally and without a committee of advisors. It is one thing to say you are going to get rid of all of Louis Vuitton’s quartz references and focus only on high watchmaking. It is quite another thing to do it and to get your entire team to buy into it. In his championing of independent watchmaking and through his collaborations, he has also demonstrated a huge passion and support for this genre of watchmaking.

Finally, he has done all this while being nice, guiding his team with kindness and conducting himself with a quiet confidence and a dignified humility.
