Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide: A Poetic Return to the Golden Era
Roger Dubuis has long been a legend in modern watchmaking. His journey began at Longines, followed by 14 formative years at Patek Philippe, before founding his eponymous brand in 1995. From the start, Dubuis created a distinct design language that married expressive aesthetics with serious horology. While the brand has since evolved into a more contemporary form, it has never lost its mechanical depth or integrity. Among collectors, few models are as revered as Dubuis’s early pieces — particularly those featuring his iconic double retrograde perpetual calendar. Answering that nostalgia, Roger Dubuis now revives the Hommage La Placide, a direct tribute to the original spirit of the brand, incorporating authentic components from the 1990s and 2000s, including parts from the RD14 base calibre and RD72 perpetual calendar module. In this conversation, Wei sits down with Antoine Hastoy, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Roger Dubuis, to explore the reborn classic. Presented in its original 38mm pink gold case, the Hommage La Placide houses the heritage-restored calibre RD1472 — a fusion of the RD14 and RD72, comprising 291 components and finished with a new 18K pink gold rotor. It bears the Poinçon de Genève, now applied to the entire watch under modern certification standards. True to Dubuis’s DNA, the watch maintains a dramatic yet balanced aesthetic with a five-level dial — from the circular-brushed, rhodium-coated outer flange to the mother-of-pearl counters and Leman Blue main plate, evoking the lake’s serene depth. The moonphase, rendered in blue aventurine with twin golden crescents, adds poetic charm, while the double retrograde display remains the centerpiece of motion and mastery. Limited to just 28 pieces, the Hommage La Placide is more than a revival — it’s a heartfelt salute to Dubuis’s original vision. In a further gesture of sincerity, the Maison is offering complimentary servicing for existing Hommage owners, reinforcing the sense of continuity between past and present.
