The Low-Down

“Sport has the power to change the world”.

These were the words of Nelson Mandela at the first Laureus Awards in 2000.

Since that time the work of Laureus Sport for Good follows this powerful guiding principle. The foundation supports over 250 programmes in more than 50 countries worldwide, using sport to transform the lives of children and young people and end violence, discrimination, and disadvantage.

IWC started to get involved with the foundation in 2006 by issuing a special limited edition piece each year to aid Laureus Sport for Good. The Laureus special edition for 2021 features a dial in the trademark Laureus blue with a scratch-resistant blue ceramic case being offered for the first time. Its deep, dark blue hue throughout is achieved by means of a complex manufacturing process whereby powdered zirconium oxide is mixed with other metallic oxides, shaped, and then sintered in a furnace.

The Laureus special edition for 2021 features a dial in the trademark Laureus blue with a scratch-resistant blue ceramic case being offered for the first time.

The blue dial is designed to mimic a cockpit instrument and is legible at just a glance with clear white Arabic numerals and chunky white hands. The red-tipped second hand makes it easy to identify the seconds as they pass. Thanks to the luminescent coating, this is also possible even at night.

Accuracy is assured with the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre movement. With a date window at 3 o’ clock, the functions also include hours, minutes, seconds and date. The improved barrel construction offers a power reserve of five days. The built-in soft iron inner cage helps shield the movement from the effects of magnetic fields.

Limited to just 750 pieces, the Laureus Special Edition in Blue Ceramic is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre movement.

The titanium caseback reveals the winning design from the drawing competition that IWC organises each year within all the programmes supported by Laureus Sport for Good.

Turn the watch over and the titanium caseback reveals a special highlight and an IWC Laureus annual tradition, the winning design from the drawing competition that IWC organises each year within all the programmes supported by Laureus Sport for Good. This years’ design was created by 12-year-old Melissa Mejía Castilla from Colombia and is entitled “Vivir en Armonía” (Living in Peace).

Limited to just 750 pieces, this new Laureus edition pilot’s watch comes on a matching blue rubber strap with textile inlay.
