Building on the success of past iterations of its sell-out Classic Tourbillon Manufacture, Frederique Constant debuts a brand-new look for the model.

Founded just 37 years ago, Frederique Constant can already boast 33 calibers that have been designed and developed within its Plan-les-Ouates manufacture, including a perpetual calendar, flyback chronograph and world timer, in addition to a Monolithic escapement, made of a single piece of silicon and beating at a rate of 40Hz. But perhaps the watch that really cemented the brand’s reputation as a sought-after maker was the Classic Tourbillon Manufacture 39mm that debuted in 2023 (previously the tourbillon had only been available in 42mm).

After several sell-out versions, there is now a new model that is sure to join its predecessors as one of Frederique Constant’s most popular designs. Originally released in a 39mm pink gold case in an edition of 150, the Classic Tourbillon Manufacture also saw silver and blue dial versions in 350-piece collections. In early 2025, another 150 examples were released featuring a striking green dial and steel case. As a special treat for its discerning collectors, the brand has also introduced a few strictly limited editions, including a meteorite dial in a platinum case and an aventurine dial in a white gold case.

Now, Frederique Constant has launched a stunning white gold model with a stormy-gray mother-of-pearl dial and a matching alligator leather strap with baby-blue topstitching. The choice of nacre is a traditional one in watchmaking, but the treatment here gives a contemporary aesthetic. The shimmering shades of blue and gray, sometimes touching on tones of green, bring the dial to life as they ripple across it, giving the impression of moving clouds or water.

Two polished leaf-shaped central hands sit on top of the dial, mimicking the faceted shape of the indexes. Inside the case is the self-winding FC-980 manufacture movement, the large 60-second tourbillon sitting at 6 o’clock on the dial-side overlaid with a slim seconds hand. The simple lines of the case and lugs are complemented by a large onion crown.

Flipping the watch over gives a full view of the FC-980 via the exhibition caseback. Finishings include beveling, beading and circular graining, as well as straight-grained flanks and mirror polishing. Bringing a touch of modernity, the tourbillon’s anchor and escapement wheel are made from silicon, giving it added protection against magnetic fields and variations in temperature. Each piece is individually numbered on the tourbillon and the case.
