Making Its Mark

Franck Muller refines the Vanguard for Asia-Pacific collectors with two dial-led exclusives, each adorned with elegant guilloché.

Franck Muller’s Vanguard line has never had a subtle look. Since its introduction in 2013, the collection has served as the brand’s more assertive, contemporary counterpart to its classic Cintrée Curvex, translating the trademarked tonneau silhouette into something sportier, bolder and immediately modern. With its latest Asia-Pacific Vanguard and Vanguard Sport exclusives, Franck Muller has chosen to refine the formula with a more controlled approach.

The first, introduced in October 2025 as the Vanguard Asia Pacific Exclusive, centers on a new in-house guilloché pavé de losanges dial. The second, launched in February 2026 as the Vanguard Sport Asia Pacific Exclusive, follows with a more straightforward brushed dial with stamped sun guilloché and a slightly more casual, sport-oriented character. In both cases, the emphasis is on wearability, surface treatment and a clearer everyday proposition.

That much is evident in the fundamentals; both models use the familiar V43 format in stainless steel, with dimensions of 42.5mm by 52.7mm and a thickness of 9.3mm, paired with an automatic movement offering 42 hours of power reserve. Water resistance is rated up to 30 meters and both models are fitted to alligator straps with rubber undersides, keeping the overall look recognizable within the contemporary luxury register Franck Muller has been exploring.

Guilloché Dials for Everyday Elegance

Of the two, the exclusive standard Vanguard line is more textural with its main point of difference being the debut of the guilloché pavé de losanges dial. It is crafted in-house through four precise stamping stages at its dial manufacture in Les Bois, Switzerland.

Combined with a contrasting micro-blasted sunburst center, hand-applied numerals painted by hand and a small date indicator at 6 o’clock, this is a dial that places geometry and light at the center of the experience. The watch is framed by a matte bead-blasted bezel, giving this version of the Vanguard a more architectural quality than many of its more flamboyant references in the line. The new Vanguard is offered in five colors — gray, black, navy, brown and green — each providing a different mood without altering its intent.

The Vanguard Sport Asia Pacific exclusive takes a simpler route. Here, the dial shifts away from the more faceted diamond-pattern surface of the aforementioned piece and instead uses a brushed finish with a stamped sun guilloché. This adds dimension while preserving clarity and a sense of balance.

The design language of the case remains broadly similar, but this time the hand-polished case and color-coordinated side inserts push it further into the sport-luxury territory. The new Vanguard Sport is also available in a range of vibrant colors, which include navy, brown, green and salmon. This model leans heavily into the smart-casual aesthetic with an instantly legible dial that makes it ideal for daily wear.

What is notable is not that either watch dramatically redefines what the Vanguard stands for, but that both make the collection feel more coherent in a market where Franck Muller’s appeal has often emphasized visual impact. These are still unmistakably Vanguards, but the tone here is more measured than before. That relative restraint may not make these the most radical watches in the line, but it does make them easier to understand as the more focused expressions of the Vanguard.
