A. Lange & Söhne at Watches and Wonders 2025: Honeygold Odysseus, Minute Repeater Perpetual, 1815

A full (gold) metal jacket for the new Odysseus, 30 years of the 1815, and more.

This year commemorates the 30-year milestone for the A. Lange & Söhne 1815. 210 years ago, a story began, leading to the contemporary horological world in which A. Lange & Söhne sits as a pinnacle of fine watchmaking. Amongst its six distinct and largely iconic collections is the remarkable, and traditional, 1815 collection, so named for the year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s birth. But before we dive into those anniversary editions, we got our hands on a new full gold release in the Odysseus collection, and we also take a closer look at the elegant Minute Repeater Perpetual in black enamel.

The first Odysseus in full Honeygold

It’s truly hard to believe that it has already been six years since the Odysseus was first announced by the German watchmaking titan. At the time, it was received with a cacophony of reactions both favorable and critical. After the dust settled, the Odysseus instantly became one of the most unobtainable steel sport watches in the game. Five subsequent models later, and Lange has announced their latest addition to the family — and it is a show stopper.

The Odysseus is now available for the first time in full 18K Honeygold — the case, the bracelet, the clasp. Limited to just 100 pieces the watch is, in a word, magnificent. By utilizing Honeygold, which has a dynamic, yet soft appearance, Lange was able to create a solid gold sports watch that (initially released in a white gold case on a rubber strap), despite the magnitude of its material, appears remarkably understated all things considered. Its soft, almost sandy tone is complimented flawlessly by the brown dial and luminous accents.

Above and beyond its elegant, striking appearance, its meticulous and vibrant finishing along the brick-link bracelet with its finely mirror polished edges, or even its masterfully finished L155.1 DATOMATIC movement with 950 platinum rotor, is the sheer weight and presence of the watch on the wrist. It is a watch fully possessed with the gravity of its own grandeur. That is to say, when you have the Odysseus Honeygold on the wrist, you are actively aware that you are wearing something truly, truly special.

Minute Repeater Perpetual

It feels like each year, A. Lange & Söhne just can’t help but drop something truly stunning. It was true last year when they released the Datograph Perpetual Honeygold Tourbillon Lumen, and it’s true this year with the release of the brand new Minute Repeater Perpetual. The watch is an absolute triumph of engineering, craftsmanship, and finishing.

The watch, which will be limited to just 50 examples, combines the two grand complications of the minute repeater and the perpetual calendar. Either function on its own is impressive, but presented together here and cased in 40.5mm of 950 platinum. The dial is composed of 18K gold with black enamel, showcasing the calendar and moonphase indications and punctuated by applied white gold roman numerals.

Made of white gold and filled with black enamel, the four-part dial displays the outsize date and accompanying subsidiary dials — day-of-the-week, 24-hour indicator, month and leap year indicators, small seconds and moon phases — against a glossy black surface

The fabulously complex minute repeater function has also been updated with a host of features which improve the performance of the chiming. Additionally, numerous safety features have been included, ensuring that accidentally damaging the movement but attempting to actuate the chime at the wrong time is an unlikely event. For example, the chime cannot be engaged if the crown is pulled out. Similarly, if the chiming is active, the crown cannot be pulled out.

Features such as these ensure that,  even in the most complex, enchanting, and even intimidating complications, are still functional first and foremost. In keeping with the concept of ease and useability, all of the calendar functions can be adjusted by way of a single corrector. The totality of function, form, and finishing, will ensure that this timepiece becomes one of the most sought after timepieces of our era.

1815 recreated with a new blue dial

The 1815 has long been a cornerstone of Lange’s offerings, dating back to near the rebirth of the brand in 1995. Originally created in honor of Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s great legacy of watchmaking in Saxony, and with a classically proportioned dial reminiscent of the pocket watches of the late 1800s, the 1815 collection has played host to some of Lange’s most fabulously complex, rare, and desirable horological achievements. But despite those heights, the core 1815 with its Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds dial remains just about as perfect as a three-hand watch can be.

… and yet, it’s just gotten even better.

For 2025, Lange has announced the creation of two new 1815s, equipped with beautiful blue dials. One in 750 white gold and one in lustrous pink gold. Both sit at a demure 34mm in diameter and just 6.4mm thick. It’s a wonderful return to the classic form of dress watches from the 1990s.

But this year’s additions are not limited to dial colors or case sizes alone. The newly developed calibre L152.1 manual winding movement, despite being smaller overall, boasts an improved power reserve of 72 hours. It truly is a worthy timepiece to honor the great horological heritage that Lange maintains to this day.
