Introducing the New Nomos Watches for 2021

The Low Down

Nomos’ slate of Watches & Wonders releases was a typically colourful affair, with dates and dials aplenty. Because, while the Glashütte-based brand might initially strike wearers as austere and monochrome, the reality is that watches of the brand are quite riots of colour. The most obvious examples in this ensemble are the new Club Campus’ and the new, date-equipped Metro and Tangente models. Even the brand’s latest charitable collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières has a splash of red.

The Nomos Club family has got four new additions this year, two in 38mm and two in 36mm, fabulously named 'Absolute Gray' and 'Orange Future' colours.

IMHO

In terms of immediate visual impact, it’s hard to go past the zesty new additions to the Club family. Four new models, two in 38mm and two in 36mm, have been introduced in the fabulously named ‘Absolute Gray’ and ‘Orange Future’ colours. According to Nomos, these colours reflect the zeitgeist, with Absolute Gray representing the woes of lockdown (even there, the dial is accented with splashes of happy orange for hands and numerals). Future Orange, on the other hand, offers hope for a brighter tomorrow. Or at the very least, an unmissable watch. The Club Campus watches are billed as Nomos’ entry into the brand. While it’s true the pricing, more youthful design language and easily engraved caseback lend themselves to a ‘good first watch’, the designs certainly stand on their own merits.

The new versions of the Tangente and the Metro are powered by Calibre DUW 6101. The date 'dash' on the Tangente is in lime green, while the Metro sees it realised in orange.

New versions of the Tangente and the Metro add not just colour, but complexity into the equation. Powered by the neomatik Calibre DUW6101, these two watches have been given the ‘Update’ upgrade, which sees the outer ring of the dial utilised for Nomos’ unique radial date display that debuted in 2018. Not only does this add some extra utility to the traditional Tangente or the more modern Metro, but it also adds a spritz of colour. The date ‘dash’ on the Tangente is in lime green, while the Metro sees it realised in orange.

Limited to 2021 pieces, the Tangente 38 celebrates 50 years of the Médecins Sans Frontières foundation.

We end on a more serious note. Nomos has made numerous limited editions with frontline health foundation Médecins Sans Frontières. Never before have they made one on this scale. This Tangente 38 marks 50 years of the organisation (don’t believe us, it says so on the dial), and, in the context of a global pandemic, MSF has never been more relevant. Nomos pays tribute to the organisation with watches with a red 12 — in addition, this is the first time a dark grey textile strap has ever been paired with a Tangente. This is also the largest edition of Médecins Sans Frontières watches; 2021 are being made, with 100 euro from each watch going to the charitable organisation.
