TAG Heuer Monaco CS2111
$ 4,570 Sold Out
The Heuer Monaco was unveiled at the Basel fair in 1969 as the world's first waterproof automatic chronograph with a square case. The retail price for this watch was US$ 200 and it was offered in two variations— ref. 1133B with a blue dial and ref. 1133G with a grey dial. One of the main highlights of this watch was the positioning of the crown on the left side of the case. With its large square case (40 mm x 38 mm), bold dial and domed plastic crystal, the Monaco was an instant hit. The Monaco’s ultimate claim to fame came when racing driver and Heuer brand ambassador Jo Siffert, the first racing driver to be sponsored by a watch brand, was seen wearing the watch in a race in 1970. Later on, the watch of course received its consecration on the silver screen when it was strapped on the wrist of the king of cool, Steve McQueen, in the movie Le Mans. Since its launch in 1969, the Monaco has been released in more guises than we can count, but the one category that will always be associated with the watch is racing.
Characterised by a sculpted black dial with three counters, the ref CS2111 was produced in 5,000 units in 1999. The present example of the watch in our shop is offered with its original set of box and papers and a two-year warranty from Watchfinder.
