This watch is housed in a 34 x 43mm white gold Tortue case, slightly upsized from the original's more moderate proportions of 26 x 35mm but with an added twist. The top of the case is paved with brilliant-cut diamonds around the ‘bezel’, outside edge and the lugs. It truly sparkles with quality.
This dial has a number of classic Cartier touches, including the guilloche finish, black painted Roman hours and the all-important ‘hidden signature’; on this example it's in the VII numeral. To complete the timeless aesthetic, the Breguet hands are blued.
The single crown is used to set the time and operate the chronograph. This really is key in maintaining the silhouette of the case, which Cartier wanted to keep as clean as possible, doing away with the traditional two pusher layout seen on most chronographs.
The caliber 045 MC was devised by Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA), the collaborative effort between three of the most important independent watchmakers of the 21st century: François-Paul Journe, Vianney Halter, and Denis Flageollet (the founder of DeBethune).
