The Legacy That Keeps on Giving — Paul Newman & Steve McQueen
Of the many hearts that were moved by Jake’s findings, one particular individual, James Cox was so moved that he picked up the phone and dropped Jake a very gracious phone call.
James Cox, of course, you will remember is the gentleman, who as a boy received an exotic dial 6239 Rolex Daytona from Paul Newman and later in 2017, offered up the same watch for sale at Phillips’ inaugural New York auction.
Jake then put two and two together, suggesting that in light of a major portion of the sale of Paul Newman’s “Paul Newman” having been forwarded to the Nell Newman foundation, it’s serendipitous how, in effect, Paul Newman’s legendary Daytona is now paying it forward to a charitable cause that was exceedingly close to Steve McQueen’s heart. Don’t suppose there is a need to remind us, at this point, that in life, Paul and Steve were not only colleagues, but great friends.
James and Nell, in the meantime, have shared that they will be attending the sale of Loren Janes’ Submariner on October 25, 2018 in New York, where they will formally make the donation.
