Introducing the IWC x Hot Wheels Racing Works Collector’s Set
The Low-Down
To mark IWC Racing team’s return to Goodwood after a two-year hiatus, IWC and Hot Wheels are releasing 50 pieces of the IWC x Hot Wheels™ “Racing Works” collector’s set. Presented in a metal box, the set consists of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “IWC x Hot Wheels™ Racing Works” in titanium; and a 1:64 scale model of the 1955 Mercedes 300 SL “Gullwing” that IWC races at classic car events through IWC Racing, its own racing team which it founded in 2018.
IMHO
There are racing-inspired watches aplenty, but IWC has in this instance stretched the canvas yet a little further, offering a unique design that is also very attractive. The classically handsome IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is given a laser-etched dial bearing the motif of a chequered flag unfurled in the wind, and the result is dynamic, bold and elegant – the very qualities that underpin the irresistible charm of classic car racing. Titanium is a little modern in the mix, but besides lightness and strength, it lends a dark grey hue which is balanced and discreet, while the Hot Wheels flame logo engraved on the side of the case at 9 o’clock is a lively touch.
In all, a fine ensemble for the lifelong petrolhead.
