Introducing Bell & Ross BR03-92 Red Radar Ceramic
The Low-Down
The first Red Radar watch from Bell & Ross, the BR01 Radar, was released in 2010. In 2011, the Red Radar was added to this range. Its dial was topped with a highly unusual red sapphire crystal. Its conceptual quirkiness quickly captured the imagination of B&R devotees and it became both an instant hit and a clever rule breaker.
The design was similar to that of an aircraft radar. The graphics accurately reproduced the scanning motion of the light beam on a radar screen to stunning effect. The bright red crystal topping the dial was designed to look just like a flight control instrument.
The Red Radar Ceramic takes the same innovative radar screen concept of the Red Radar and adds a new and even more playful dynamic.
Two concentric discs fuse with the dial replacing the hour and minute hands. The discs move two tiny screen printed planes. There’s a passenger plane on the outermost disc showing the hours. And a fighter plane on the smaller disc showing the minutes. Meanwhile, an analogue central hand sweeps over the dial showing the seconds.
Two ultra-light discs had to be designed to preserve the power reserve. The assembly of each of these components was fine-tuned to the nearest micron to avoid friction.
On the lower level are the discs and the planes, on the upper level is the hour scale printed on the inside of the sapphire crystal.
The familiar 42mm watch case is that of the BR-03 series made from robust matt black scratch-proof ceramic topped with a red sapphire crystal.
IMHO
You don’t have to be able to read a radar screen to predict that the third addition to the Bell & Ross Red Radar family, the BR-03-92 Red Radar Ceramic, is destined to become another prized collector’s item among Bell & Ross fans and aficionados.
The new B&R BR03 Red Radar Ceramic is limited to just 999 pieces, which means the watch is likely to sell out faster than a UFO flitting across a radar screen.
