ORIS x MOMOTARO
In 1965, the Oris diver watch influenced the future of the collection, including recreating the vintage piece in its likeness in 2015. Keeping the features of its slim case, domed sapphire crystal and lugs, the Oris x Momotaro Divers Sixty-Five is the result of a partnership between two independent brands. It's a trendy and handsome watch that combines the street style of a cult Japanese denim label with a beloved diving tool watch.
RAW SELVEDGE DENIM
Selvedge denim refers to the "self-edge" of the fabric, woven using old-fashioned denim weaving techniques and traditional shuttle looms. Momotaro uses specific manufacturing methods for its raw selvedge denim, with material made from Zimbabwean cotton, indigo dye that Japanese denim is famed for and traditional shuttle loom weaving. Their artisans use traditional sewing machines to stitch their denim.
ON THE PARTNERSHIP
Mr Katsu Manabe, managing director and chief operating officer of the Japan Blue Co, which owns Momotaro, says, "Japanese craftsmanship has a spirit of hospitality. That means our craftsmen consider details with the end-user in mind. That's the secret to the quality of our jeans. This isn't just a product collaboration. Our spirit and culture and craftsmanship really synchronised. I love the watch, and definitely want it!".
