Ferdinand Berthoud

Ferdinand Berthoud was a Swiss-born scientist and master watchmaker who devoted himself to developing sea clocks and determining longitude at sea. In 1770, he received the title of Horologist- Mechanic by appointment to the King and the Navy. Ferdinand Berthoud’s marine chronometers were used on board ship for various test campaigns and charting voyages. But Ferdinand Berthoud as a brand lay inactive for many years between 1876 and the 21st century, and it is truly thanks to the thoughtfulness and genius of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and the Chopard Group that the brand is revived today in a manner that is faithful to its rich history. In the few short years since its rebirth, Ferdinand Berthoud has very quickly achieved acclaim, with the brand winning the “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix in 2016 and 2019.
