Xavier Magaldi is a qualified watchmaker and watch designer by day, and a fully-fledged artist by night. When he leaves the bench at the end of his working day, he goes home to his paintbrushes and cans of spray paint to create an entirely different form of mechanical art.
Magaldi’s futuristic industrial/mechanical imagery combines his passion for street art (he started out as a graffiti artist) with intricate mechanical elements and an unusual use of light. Creating a new style of art called MecaFuturism, that has its roots in motion graffiti, Magaldi’s works of art immediately catch the eye of the watch connoisseur thanks to their horological elements.
Revolution featured a whole series of his work in its Swiss edition a few years ago and we have been delighted to follow his successful artistic career ever since.
This spring we are excited to announce that he will be showing a new series of his work in a brand new exhibition called Concrete Thoughts. The exhibition will be comprised of paintings and sculptures using concrete, wood and metal that play with different techniques, shapes and colors.
Concrete Thoughts opens just after the close of the famous Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) on Saturday 21st January and will run until 17th February at the Speerstra Gallery located in the village of Bursins, just a short journey from Geneva.
If you are planning a visit to the SIHH on Friday 20th January (the first time the salon has opened its doors to the general public), we thoroughly recommend extending your trip by a day and heading to this unique art gallery to experience a different interpretation of time. There is also a rather wonderful restaurant in the village called the Auberge du Soleil, so why not make a weekend of it!
