The Dark Night Would Make An Unforgettable Night!

Do you enjoy movies that integrate action, psychological terror, and fantasy? If so, your $10.50 would be well spent on The Dark Night. It was a bit on the longish side, but excellent nonetheless. Heath Ledger gave a unique authenticity to the Joker that hasn’t been seen before. I’ll go as far as saying that his performance was superior to Jack Nicholson’s. Nicholson’s Joker was funny as opposed to Ledger’s character being maniacal. It was that contrast that made Ledger’s Joker logical and truer to life. Christian Bale took on the character of Batman with such ease that he made the super hero seem realistic. His Batman wasn’t just out to save Gotham, he was out to save a basic moral principle…integrity. A sign of good acting is when the actor can make you forget about who they are in real life. Both Ledger and Bale met that challenge. The well put together lineup also includes Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Micheal Caine. Overall, this seemed like a more serious crime drama than the previous Batman movies. Is that the result of good writing or good casting? You be the judge.

What Is The Biggest Threat To Our World Today?
July 6, 2008 by LorMarie · Leave a Comment
Living in a “paradise on earth” like America could cause you to become oblivious to what is happening around the world. We’ve had terrorist attacks along with a few wacko domestic extremist, but we don’t face such threats day in and day out. With that said, I wonder what is a bigger threat to our world, Islamic extremism, “Euro” fascism, or paranoia.
I watched a short film today, by Dutch politician Geert Wilders, called Fitna. It’s a film that depicts Islamofascism at its worst. First I’d like to caution anyone who clicks on the link that there are some very disturbing images in the short film. If you are easily disturbed, as am I, do not click on it. Some will be quick to brand the film as nothing more than racist propaganda. I’m not here to argue if that labeling is justified or not. As far as I’m concerned, Wilders just might be another Eurofascist who doesn’t want nonwhites in his country. But does that take away from the fact that there may be some truth in the film? What’s disturbing to me is that racists are high jacking legitimate concerns about Islamic extremism. Why are we allowing this? It is because we are afraid of being called racist. There is nothing racist about wanting to stop the spread of a potentially dangerous worldview. We must stop viewing Islamic radicals as nonwhites who are victims of western imperialism. They’ve got their own oppressive agenda and we must confront it.
It is crucial that we take back the fight against radical Islam from the far right extremists of Europe. They include the British National Party, the Freedom Party (Austria), Vlaams Belang (Belgium), and the French National Front to name a few.
So what is the biggest threat to our world today? It’s not radical Islam or Euro fascism. It’s paranoia plain and simple. We are too darn paranoid to be called racist or culturally insensitive so we allow third world extremism to flourish. It’s time to stop handling Islamic radicalism with kid gloves and call it what it is…another form of fascism.
