The Dark Night Would Make An Unforgettable Night!

July 28, 2008 by LorMarie · Leave a Comment

Do you enjoy movies that integrate action, psychological terror, and fantasy? If so, your $10.50 would be well spent on The Dark Night. It was a bit on the longish side, but excellent nonetheless. Heath Ledger gave a unique authenticity to the Joker that hasn’t been seen before. I’ll go as far as saying that his performance was superior to Jack Nicholson’s. Nicholson’s Joker was funny as opposed to Ledger’s character being maniacal. It was that contrast that made Ledger’s Joker logical and truer to life. Christian Bale took on the character of Batman with such ease that he made the super hero seem realistic. His Batman wasn’t just out to save Gotham, he was out to save a basic moral principle…integrity. A sign of good acting is when the actor can make you forget about who they are in real life. Both Ledger and Bale met that challenge. The well put together lineup also includes Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Micheal Caine. Overall, this seemed like a more serious crime drama than the previous Batman movies. Is that the result of good writing or good casting? You be the judge.

Just When I Thought I hated Rap Music…

March 29, 2008 by LorMarie · 1 Comment

With all of the misogynistic dogma and profanity present in today’s rap music, it’s refreshing to hear something positive. In addition to rappers like Common, there are also heroes of the past like Arrested Development, Queen Latifah, MC-Lyte, and Will Smith. It’s a shame that my list of rappers from the past is longer than any list I could create made up of modern rappers. Below is a rap video by a young Christian man who goes my the name Lacrae:

I remember when rap actually meant something such as this:

Those were the days…

Aerosmith, Aerosmith, Aerosmith–Back In Time

March 9, 2008 by LorMarie · 1 Comment

Yes, I liked big rock and still do at times. Aerosmith is one of my favorite bands of all time. Steven Tyler has one of the most unique and unmatchable voices ever.

What It Takes is still one of my faves. Its a very passionate tune where Tyler shows off the “wonders” he could do with his voice.

I stiiiiillllll miss you baby”, sings Tyler because he “don’t wanna miss a thang.”

This band certainly deserves an honor from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Looky heare looky heea, we gots Moni love in the middle. There’s not a hint of a British accent when she raps. Check it out and enjoy because there will be some serious heat in the next few posts. I guess we should have fun while we can. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCwMFwvwieo]

She was another popular rapper when I was in high school. Of course, this was back when rap was appropriate for my ears. Thanks for the musical memories, Moni

Ever Want To Go Back In Time?

I’m sitting here reminiscing about the music that was popular when I was in my late teens. The New Jack Swing era was in full force and one of my favorite “groups” was TLC. Remember the clothing style they made popular? Yeah, I wore the combat boots with colorful band-aids and baggy pants. Hey, they were hyped and I wanted to follow their trend. The most memorable member was the late Left Eye who appeared tough and could rap with the best of them. Next there was Chilli who carried a tune that gave the group an R&B feel. And lastly there was T-Boz who added a finishing touch with her cool, deep voice. The best thing about TLC was that they didn’t flaunt their bodies for the world to see, but simply made great music. Those were the days…

What About Your Friends

Ahh, this is one of my TLC hits.

Aint To Proud To Beg

LOL, I remember the condoms that they’d plaster all over their clothing. The lyrics aren’t as easy on me now as they were then. Well, let’s just say that I was never one to “beg” but I’m much more conservative now than I was in 1992. Btw, don’t be afraid to look at the video…it’s not visually explicit.

Thanks for the memories, TLC!

Would You Like To Be Osama Bin Laden’s Daughter-In-Law?

January 18, 2008 by LorMarie · 3 Comments

The stupid things we women do sometimes… This article is about a 51-year-old British woman who married the 5th love of her life, the son of Osama Bin Laden. Her young stud, Omar Bin Laden, is 27. Wow, that is probably the same age as one of her children. Allow me to make one thing clear, I see nothing wrong with her marrying him per se. Just because you are related to an infamous, evil person (whether it is a relative of Hitler, or Osama) does not mean that you are also evil thus undeserving of marriage. What blows my mind is what appears to be happening to hers. Take a look at a quote:

“Today, she is taking family loyalty to a somewhat improbable level, insisting again that the Bin Laden patriarch might just be innocent. With a jaw-dropping combination of stupidity and naivety, she says in her best school ma’am voice, when I raise the question of the Twin Towers: “I mean, do you know - beyond all doubt - that he did it?

“If so, I’d like you to show me the evidence. I don’t think it’s nice to make assumptions about someone when you don’t know the facts.”

I hope that I am wrong about this, but why does it appear that women fall for such nonsense more so  than men do?

Lord, help me not to be so gullible.

Nostradamus Prediction: Strange Indeed

January 7, 2008 by LorMarie · Leave a Comment

When I was in 9th grade, I remember talking with some school chums about this specific Nostradamus prediction. Does the description remind you of a certain terrorist who wears a white turban?

Out of the country of Greater Arabia
Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed…
He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban.
He will be the terror of mankind.
Never more horror.

Although I’ve never seen a picture of Bin Laden in a blue turban, the description above sounds eerily similar to him. hhhmmm

For the record, I am not concerned about the authenticity of the prediction one way or the other. It is quite entertaining though.

Faith Evans! Are You Serious?

December 23, 2007 by LorMarie · Leave a Comment

You’ve probably noticed by now that I am a music lover to the 100th degree. One of my favorite artists, Faith Evans, has a cool song called Mesmerized from her album First Lady (2005).  Allow me first to say that I am a huge fan of hers. But there is one part of the song that I find to be just plain weird.  The hit, obviously about “romance”, has a tune similar to a gospel song most popular in the black church.  Ever hear Christians chant, makes me wanna clap my hands, makes me wanna stomp my feet during Sunday morning worship?

You’ll hear Faith’s brief rendition of the song when you reach 2 minutes 32 seconds into the video.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClWz_8kSpmU&rel=1]

On the other hand, the chant could have originated in the secular world, having nothing to do with God, and then later adopted by gospel artists.  That happens as well. While there may not be anything wrong with crossing gospel and secular music, it is best to do it when the lyrics and themes are at least a bit interchangeable.

Oh well. She’s still a great singer.

If You Sin Even Once, You Are A False Convert!!!!

December 20, 2007 by LorMarie · 1 Comment

It never ceases to amaze me how some Christians believe that certain sins indicate false conversions. One of my favorite Internet radio programs, Way of The Master Radio, included a segment on the whole Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy fiasco. Todd Friel suggested that the way to avoid this type of situation is to “get your kids saved.” First, that comment implies that a Christian, even a saved/born-again individual would never fall into sexual sin. He also mentioned that this type of a situation screams false conversion. I disagree. First, we don’t even know if Little Miss Spears ever claimed to be converted. Sure, she attended church. But church attendance means nothing.

Second, committing a sin (including fornication) does NOT indicate that a person had a false conversion. On the other hand, making sin an unrepentant habit indicates a false conversion, IMO. In fairness, the host did mention things like Christians having accountability partners which can work if one is sincere. But the fact is, Christians commit all kinds of sins. The difference is the attitude and willingness to take steps to avoid it.

On the other hand, I do cringe whenever I hear of a young girl getting pregnant. But, I will not focus on pregnancy since God is the only one who gives life. After all, isn’t it better that she became pregnant rather than infected with AIDS? But I do wish that more teens would focus on important things and not rush into physical pleasures.

On a side-note, the father of this child is 19, she is 16. Is that legal? The south is a funny place you know. LOL
